Always Behind the Scenes

Every issue with New Hope Productions will have a “movie review” article, but not necessarily the type of movie review people are familiar with. If you ever took a theatre class, you might be familiar with the term “Deus ex machina” or “God of (or in) the machine.” The definition, as explained in class is: An unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel.

That sounds incredibly academic (or boring if I’m honest), but my wish is for it to be enlightening…even humorous and fun. Every issue is going to focus on a film; mostly contemporary films. I have found that he always seems to find a way into the story, even if the author or director never planned on having him there. That happens quite often in life as well. Of course, that is just our interpretation…

This is going to be an adventure! Although film is the youngest of artful mediums, there’s no denying that film has had the most powerful impact on us. Some films we have lined up to discuss may come as a surprise (or shock) to some, but if you bear with us, we might all find something deeper and more enriching that what’s presented in the trailers.

Let the interpretation of favorite films begin…
